A contingency plan can help get you rapid and constructive help when needed AND can reduce the potential negative impact on friends and family. In your plan, consider the following:

  • Establish a trusted friend to inform if things go badly and help navigate your plan
  • Have a designated support mechanism or treatment facility on speed dial
  • Have an away bag packed and ready
  • Establish a financial emergency fund
  • Pre-define available and willing support for elders, children, and pets
  • With the help of your trusted friend(s), inform your predetermined call tree of work colleagues, family members, and friends
